Art For River
Water security is the most important challenge staring at India, with alarming reports on Himalayan glaciers receding owing to the global warming, the rainfall pattern though hasn’t changed in volume, is showing unpredictable behavior at micro climatic geographic levels.
In the wake of breakneck urbanization in India, this unpredictability in climate has exacerbated the instances of devastating Floods along with crippling Draughts and are now visible every year.
This has not only taken a heavy toll on lives and live stocks, it’s also putting a lot of stress on agriculture in India, which is the core of employment for our heavily dense population.
Indian communities and leaderships- both scientific and public must start taking a holistic view on the subject since water systems transcends administrative boundaries and languages creating barriers in data sharing and communication between affected entities leading to action paralysis and proper impact monitoring of work done.
The Road Map to Water Self- Sufficiency
1. Digitization of river basins with geo tags on critical points including catchment, tributaries, channels and canals, along with overflow mechanisms including ponds, lakes and aquifers management.
2. Documenting Change in geomorphology and impacts on the basin.
3. Documenting historical research – Both academic and socio-cultural.
4. Standardizing this data across river basins and monitoring the parameters periodically.
5. Generate a holistic river system health report every year for action by leadership with public engagement.
6. Supporting think tanks and grassroot stakeholders with technology, training and infrastructure for working on rivers and water management in local communities.
Why Art for River Matters?
Artists are waking up to the fact that environment needs all the help it can get and coming together with their best masterpieces to help. We are a platform enabling concerned global citizens to be invited to eminent art displays and be the proud owners of some of the greatest artwork done by prominent artists on the environmental theme.
The money collected will go towards supporting research and ground projects with grassroot stakeholders around smaller rivers, channels and tributaries of major rivers, so the flow pattern and health of the 7 rivers supporting our cultural melting pot of India can be maintained.
